40 things I love about Oman #15 A Modern Palace

This is the Sultan's Palace, built in 1972, so pretty much a modern building compared to the Portuguese Forts that flank it. It is hard to see the detail in the architecture, but it really is a beautiful building. The crest on the gates is made of 24 carat gold, so worth a touch at least! Visitors are only allowed into the palace grounds which is a shame, because there are rumours that there is a bowling alley in the basement of the palace!
