40 things I love about Oman #12 The Sultan Centre

I love this entrance to another of my favorite shopping centers in Oman! The Sultan Centre is popular with our family for a few reasons.
The Sultan Centre has a great mix of local and international foods. A lot of American products come here and it is great to be able to get comforts from "home" occasionally even if it is costly. A few items in the grocery cart really add up, so we only go there for treats!
One year we managed to find some red and green M&M's just in time for Christmas baking, only to have them eaten by some hungry youth who raided our fridge!
One of our traditions when we first moved to Muscat was to come early on a Thursday morning for fresh Fatayer. Thursday and Friday are the weekend days in Oman. Thursdays are free from work and Friday is the Holy Day for Muslims to pray and it is also the day that Christians have their Church services.
Fatayers were our weekend breakfast treat. Flat bread is cooked in a clay oven right on the hot stone (similar to a pizza oven) and is covered with an Arabic cheese or Zataar (a mix of Oregano, Thyme, Sumac & Sesame seeds). The Sultan Centre was where the best cheese Fatayer could be eaten hot from the oven.
Mouth watering as I write...!
