After the Storm

Apparently the sand lot (or mud lot now) across from our house has become the latest gathering place for crazy drivers. Not content with Dune bashing, which is riding a 4x4 (SUV) over sand dunes, now the craze is driving in the mud! I suppose mud is a novelty when this country typically never has so much mud due to less than an inch of rain per year in the city.
Of course, its like people from Florida trying to drive in Michigan snow-when you are not used to it the crazies take over! One car, a 4x4 started it all off by trying to do donuts in the mud. All the neighbors came out touching the car and I suppose being generally in awe of the mud-like we do each time it snows back home. So another car followed also wanting mud all over his car. Sadly with no 4 wheel drive the inevitable happened! Stuck-in-the-mud!

It was quite amazing to see the whole family of men trying to figure out how to get the car out while keeping their clothing white. Today is Eid. It is a very special Holy Day in the Muslim calendar. It is a time to remember the sacrifice that Abraham made with Ishmael (not Isaac as Christians believe). So it is an important family gathering. I am sure the last thing everyone wanted was to be standing in mud in their best Eid clothes.

I snapped a few photos. After an hour of perseverance, the car finally was pulled out by the original 4x4 driver that started it all. So what did the driver of the car do to celebrate getting unstuck? Yip. Did another donut so as not to lose face and drove away!

The men exhausted by their effort in the 90 degree heat, took a well earned break. Eid Mubarak! (Happy Eid) is the traditional greeting today.
