When abnormal becomes normal..

It's the life here. Abnormal after a time becomes normal. Today is what we call Boxing Day. The day after Christmas.
Since we are not living in our home cultures at this time of year we enjoy traditions from each of our countries and create new ones.
Today was one of those new traditions. We decided to do a Boxing Day BBQ. Once a year we splurge on pork products. Pork is sold here but in special shops behind special signs.

It suddenly struck me odd today. Our normal "once a year" pork fest must seem strange to others. Pork is readily available in our home countries and might even be eaten daily by our friends and relatives. But for us it is a luxury. It is so expensive that we really enjoy it when we have it.
Yesterday we had our Christmas brunch at home and had Cumberland sausages and real British back bacon! Americans tend to use the back part of the pig for ribs and bacon in America is British streaky bacon. So the back bacon is a real treat since we could never get it in America.

Today our pork fest continued with BBQ pork chops!

The kiddos savoured every bite knowing this happens here once a year..
